Master of Business Studies - Finance (MBS - F)

Master of Business Studies in Finance (MBS-F) program is 2 years Post Graduate Degree. Campus is willing to run the MBS-F from academic year 2019 as an autonomous program. The course structure is designed to provide students with essential knowledge in the fields of Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, Human Resource Management and other functional business areas. In this regard, an effort will be made to create awareness among students with respect to culture, environment and challenges of business organization through classroom lectures, assignment, project & presentations, case studies, industrial visits, special workshops, seminars etc. MBS-F graduates are expected to develop the following skills after completing the (MBS-F) Degree:

Managerial Skills in different functional areas of management

Communication Skills in the field of practice

Decision Making Skills through research

Entrepreneurial skills as a risk take

GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM

The program is dedicated to develop socially responsible, creative, and analytical result oriented management professionals.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAM

The focus program (MBS-F) will enhance students financial decision making capacity.

Students will be confident to hold and execute middle level and higher level managerial positions in any organization.

They will acquire ample knowledge and skill to solve practical business problems creatively.

Students develop themselves into management education with a blend of Information Technology.

Prepare students to proceed with new venture in the society.

TEACHING PEDAGOGY

The general teaching pedagogy includes class lectures, group discussions, case studies, guest lectures, student presentation, role play, research work, project work (individual and group), assignments (theoretical and practical), and term papers. The teaching faculty will determine the choice of teaching pedagogy as per the need of the course. The concerned faculty shall develop a detailed course outline and work plan before beginning of each semester and also recommends the basic text and other reference materials for effective teaching-learning of the course modules.

DEGREE REQUIREMENT

To receive MBS-F degree the student must have:

The successful completion of 60 credit hours as prescribed with a minimum of passing grade in all courses with CGPA of 2.7.

A ‘B’ minus or better grade in each of the courses as specified in the curricular structure section;

Obtained an overall CGPA of 3.0 or better after combining the GPAs obtained in all courses and dissertation.

Completed all the course requirements as specified in the curricular structure section within the prescribed time period specified in the normal and maximum duration of the study section.

ATTENDANCE

Students are required to attend regularly all theory and practical classes, assignments, study tour, field trip, seminars and presentations as required by the course. A student is required to attend at least 80 percent of such activities in order to qualify for the semester examination.

CREDIT TRANSFERS AND WITHDRAWALS

The program allows students to transfer the credits earned by them in similar program of other universities as recognized by TU.

Students willing to transfer credit from accredited university/college or recognize by TU have to apply at the Faculty of Management (FOM) paying a sum of amount for each credit to be transferred.

Concerned faculty or institute will review all previous university/college level grade sheet to determine what credits may be eligible to transfer.

The FOM will review every course taken by a student to another university/college.

The student should complete the first semester duration in the master program to be eligible for credit transfer.

A student who has partially completed the MBS-F program and would like to discontinue his / her studies shall also be allowed to withdraw from the program. In such cases, a certificate specifying the credit earned by the student in the program shall be provided.

ELIGIBILITY CONDITION FOR ADMISSION

The candidate applying for admission to the MBS-F program must qualify the following:

The students applying for admission to MBS-F course must have successfully completed the Bachelor (2years/3 years/4years) Degree in any discipline from Tribhuvan University or from any other University recognized by Tribhuvan University.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

WRITTEN TEST
Eligible applicants are required to appear in the entrance test commonly known as LBC Management Admission Test (LBCMAT). The test will follow the international testing pattern and standards. It includes the areas like:

  1. Verbal ability
  2. Quantitative ability
  3. Logical reasoning
  4. General awareness

There shall be altogether one hundred (100) objective questions in the LBCMAT containing twenty (25) questions in each section with a total weight of 100 marks. Student must secure a minimum grade or percentage declared by the examination committee in the LBCMAT in order to qualify for the interview.

INTERVIEW 
Applicants securing above cut off point marks in the LBCMAT will be short-listed. Only short listed candidates will be interviewed and selected for admission.

EXAMINATION, EVALUATION AND GRADING SYSTEM

The MBS-F program will be executed through the semester system. The regular program shall be completed in four semesters. The internal (ongoing) evaluation and the external (end of semester) examination shall carry 40 percent and 60 percent weightage respectively. The semester examinations shall be conducted by office of the BOARD OF EXAMINATION [Parikshya Sanchalak Samiti, Sec.54(1), TU Autonomous Rules 2062 with amendment of 2063]. The final grade of the student shall be determined on the overall performance in the internal and external examinations.

In-semester Evaluations

The in-semester (internal) evaluation shall generally have a total weight of 40 percent in each course. Students have to secure at least 50 percent marks in each subject to pass the in-semester exam. The concerned faculty shall be responsible for the continuous in-semester evaluations. The in-semester evaluation shall be based on a student’s performance in class presentations, case analysis, and project assignments, class tests and others as required by the course. A student must secure a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 or Grade B minus (B-) in a course in order to be eligible to appear in the semester-end examination of that course. The in-semester evaluations will be based on the following components:

In case a student remains absent in internal examination due to serious illness/emergency conditions will give one-time opportunity to appear in the exam if he/she is able to produce an authorized certificate. The internal exam notice will be published by the concerned department or campus.

Semester-end Examinations

The semester-end examinations on course work related subjects shall have a total weight of 60

percent. The semester-end examination shall be based on problem solving questions, analytical questions, and case studies or any other formats as demanded by a course. The duration of the examination shall be 4 hours for each course.

PASSING GRADE AND GRADING SYSTEM

The grading system followed in the MBS-F program will be based on the absolute performance of a student in the in-semester evaluations and semester-end examinations. The performance of a student in the MBS-F program shall be made on a four point scale ranging from 0 to 4. The passing grade in the semester-end examination for an individual paper shall be grade “B minus” or GPA of 2.7. In order to pass the semester examination the student must secure a minimum of Grade “B” or Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (60 percent). The overall grade of a student will be determined by the student’s performance in the in-semester and semester-end examinations. The final evaluation of students is done through the examination conducted by office of the BOARD OF EXAMINATION (Parikshya Sanchalak Samiti). The following table presents the Letter Grade, GPA, percentage equivalent and Performance Remarks for the MBS-F program:

MAKE-UP EXAMINATION AND RE-REGISTRATION
  1. Students who do not qualify to appear in the semester-end examinations will have to reregister and retake the course as per the semester cycle.
  2. Students who are qualified but fail to appear in semester end examination or failed in the semester end examination can appear in the semester end examination as per the semester cycle.
  3. In case students failed or fail to appear in at most two subjects in final semester, FOM shall organize chance exam for them.
  4. Students can opt for betterment examination of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd semester in a semester cycle if he/she scores less than grade ‘B’ or 60% in any two subjects. If betterment examination marks is lower than the original marks then original marks shall be counted.
SCHOLARSHIP PROVISION

There will be biannual intake and each section will have 60 students.

  1. Scholarship quota 20% of the total intake.
  2. The entrance topper i.e. LBCMAT will also enjoy the scholarship of 50% of semester fees only in 1st semester.
  3. Students shall have to pass SLC/SEE and 10+2 level of education from Nepalese Government/Community/Trust institution to apply for scholarship.
  4. He/she shall be a citizen of Nepal. Students who are eligible and selected for scholarship shall be awarded with 50% semester fees waiver as scholarship.
  5. The scholarship is divided as 50% to Meritorious (Private and Public) and remaining 50% is applicable for economically unprivileged students (applicable only for Govt. and Community Institutions).
  6. Students shall have to pass each semester to enjoy the continuity of scholarship.
  7. Special scholarship to differently able students as per their grade certified by concerned authority
  8. 50% semester fees waiver for 1st , 2nd, and 3rd semester topper
  9. 100% scholarship for the TU bachelor level topper
Special scholarship of sports 
  1. District level sports personnel – 20% waiver of semester fees if produced district level genuine certificate issued by district sports authority
  2. State/Province level sports personnel – 30% waiver of semester fees if province level genuine certificate is produced by the concerned
  3. National Level sports personnel – 50% waiver of semester fees if national level genuine certificate is produced by the concerned issued by Government of Nepal
  4. International Level sports personnel – 100% waiver of semester fees if International level genuine certificate is produced by the concerned issued by International Sports authority and authorized by Government of Nepal.
